– It is my family who have had the worries in all this. So it was when I woke up and realized what condition I was in that the emotions flowed. And then I knew they had been there every day, just sitting next to my bed. They understood from me that I knew they were there all the way.
The “farm” crisis: – Zero humility
This is how the Dagbladet interview with Terje Leer (57) started, known from “The Farm” in 2019, at the beginning of May last year.
Earlier this year, in January, he had been infected with the coronavirus, which eventually led to his hovered between life and death for 17 days in a respirator.
–
Feels much better
Fortunately, everything went well in the end, but to Dagbladet he stated afterwards that, while he was in a coma, he experienced his own funeral – something that naturally scared him terribly.
It has now been well over a year since Leer was awakened. According to the ex- “Farmen” participant, he is still tired, even though he has managed to recover.
– The doctors also said – that it can take over a year before the lungs are completely well again. It’s still a bit heavy to breathe, but I feel better than in a long time – it can not be compared, he says to Dagbladet today.
He continues:
– It is probably only in the last six months that it has dawned on me how close it was to death. After all, there was a 50 percent chance that this would go well.
Urgent surgery after birth
Tough year
Kona Lise Leer (53), which previously has been open about his life and his challenges as a blind manhas also talked about the fact that her husband’s period of illness is the toughest period she has experienced so far in her life.
However, she knew little about what to expect. For 2021 was to turn out to be even worse: A few months after Terje was back on his feet, the family got a new challenge in the face.
– Our eldest daughter Malene had a stroke in May last year. She still has not regained her sight. As if that wasn’t enough, I even got appendicitis in late summer. It was critical – because the appendix burst. So in 2021 we will put a big cross over, the 53-year-old says frankly.
She characterizes last year as, to put it mildly, tiring.
– On top of all this, my mother got cancer and later my father also suffered a stroke. It was a tough year. But at the same time it has given us a feeling of happiness, considering that everything has gone well and that we are all back in the old life. We take with us what we have learned and are happy with life.
Here the tears take over completely
Did not see the mobile screen
Dagbladet has been in contact with Åse Line Leer’s parents, who have approved the mention of themselves and what they have been through.
There is also Terje and Åse Line’s eldest daughter, Malene (28). She was only 27 years old when she suffered a stroke on 15 May last year.
She says that she woke up at night with a severe headache, got up and found her mobile phone.
–
Malene Leer, who works as a nurse on a daily basis, quickly realized that something was wrong when she did not see a shred of what was on the screen. Thus, her, at that time, new boyfriend Carl Alderin (31) took hold and called the emergency room.
Not long after, she was rushed to Ullevål hospital by ambulance – and after about an hour there, the doctors were able to establish that it was stroke she was afflicted with – a form of blood clot in her brain.
– Absolutely reprehensible
– Terribly painful
The worst of all, according to the now 28-year-old girl, was when she had to go through a series of tests with an extreme form of headache, including CT, X-rays and MRI.
– I had such an insane pain in my head, which is why taking an MRI was completely cruel – because it makes such a noise. It felt like my eyes were going to pop out of my head, she says, before continuing:
– I have hurt a lot of strange things in this body, but lying there in a machine that makes so much noise … Tears flowed. It felt like an eternity and was completely, utterly damn. It was terribly painful.
Fortunately, “Farmen” -Terje’s eldest daughter received prompt treatment. Still, she has gotten lasting but after what hit her.
The 28-year-old tells Dagbladet that she still does not have side vision on the right side of both eyes – something she may have to live with for the rest of her life.
– How has it affected you afterwards?
– I’m just trying to figure out how I can live with it. I have extremely little energy compared to before and get very tired when I am with many people. I can often lie in bed all day. I get stressed, because I know how tired I get of everything, she says.
Illness nightmare: – Became very, very ill
Thanks girlfriend
At the same time, she pays tribute to Carl Alderin, her boyfriend, with whom she has been together for just over a year – but been good friends with her for five years before that again.
– Well, I do not think I could have worked one hundred percent or had the life I have now had it not been for him. He makes everyday life so much easier for me. He shows up for everything! I am simply moved by the fact that there are such people, says Malene, who a few months before the battle had taken place AstraZeneca vaccine.
Lying in a coma: – An unreal situation
However, the doctors believe that it is unlikely that the vaccine is to blame for the blood clot, she points out.
Now she hopes that she will never experience a year like last year again, and that the rest of 2022, and not least 2023, will be much easier to cope with.
– 2021 was absolutely damn. First we got a slap in the face when dad ended up in a coma. Then we got one more with me, and later one more, one more and one more. How much should one endure, sort of? There are five cases that are all potentially life threatening. We’ve been through a lot. It was a cruel year.
–
But not everything is so bad that it is not good for anything, Malene Leer admits.
– Thank God I was newly in love. In that sense, it was a good year to get bad messages, she says with a smile to Dagbladet.
