Farewell to Valterio Ciz, a protagonist of the Rosario theater

In 1983 he joined the second edition of Teatro Abierto Rosario, an event that marked the cultural life of the post-dictatorship. In this context, Ciz directed the play “Cinco brillos”, by Adolfo Maguna, and was represented in the now defunct Olimpo theater. The work deserved the award for Best Director for Ciz, shared with Eugenio Filipelli who had directed “Saving the boss.” The actor was also a member of the cast of Carlos Gorostiza’s “El pan de la locura”, directed by David Edery.

Ciz also participated in plays for children. He did so in “Baby Dreams”, with Patricia Caggiano, and “Cuentos de la Selva”, accompanied by Celeste Pesoa, Samanta García, Adrián La Scala and Rolando Lo Giúdice.

In cinema he was part of the documentary “The theater in the dictatorship. Rosario 1976-1983 ”in which, through the testimony of the interviewees, the way in which the theaters circumvented the limitations is revealed. In addition to the testimony of Ciz, the work that required five years of investigation, has the testimonies of costume designers, set designers and actors such as Liliana Gioia, Cristina Prates, Mirko Buchín, Hugo Salguero, Darío Grandinetti, among others. The film was directed by Cristian Cabruja and in 2010 it won the first prize in the “We” Competition organized by the National Institute of Cinemas and Audiovisual Arts.

As the actor himself recalled in the blog he published between 2011 and 2017, for several years he was the image of a well-known insurance company in graphic and television campaigns with the actress Emmy Reydó. In Buenos Aires he participated in more than twenty productions for leading brands of different products, including a famous soda with Chunchuna Villafañe and Marcelo Marcote that was broadcast in Spanish-speaking countries.

Ciz also wrote poetry and thus left it embodied in the book “Sueños de cama”, with an illustration of the cover by local artist Gregorio Zeballos and the foreword by Víctor Zenobi, while on radio he hosted the program “La Ganzúa”, on AZ 93, which also delivered the prizes of the same name. In his role as author, he wrote eleven books with works for adults and children.

In 2017 he received the “La Gordillo” award for his theatrical career and in 2018 he was named a distinguished artist by the Municipal Council of Rosario. At the award ceremony, it was stated that “Valterio Ciz is an artist with a vast career, with more than 50 years as a director, actor and theater producer, outstanding at the local and national level. He is also a teacher and participated in film and television, thus contributing to the development of local culture, which he represented in various national settings ”.

On that occasion, the actor and director noted in his gratitude: “This is for me a pampering to the heart” and stressed that his work as an actor “is an expression of joy, a way of life.”
