MANTUA. The Poma was his home, and the 118 nurses his family. Today, the news of the death of Ombretta Ninetto, a hospital nurse first and 118 later, is a boundless pain for everyone. She was 56, and had been diagnosed with colon cancer a few months ago, which overwhelmed her in no time. Until last week she had stayed at home, assisted by her 118 colleagues, then hospitalization for palliative care was necessary. She passed away on Friday afternoon, two days after her birthday, with her colleagues and her family beside her. Ombretta lived alone in the house in Porto with which she had lived with her mother, who passed away a few years ago. She had worked for many years in vascular surgery at Poma, then moved to the 118 central, of which she had been one of the pioneers “her dream, which she had managed to fulfill” recall Moreno Benedini, her former head nurse, the colleagues in the ward and the doctors who worked with her. He had since served on ambulances, as well as volunteering in Porto in support of emergencies.
The body was composed in the mortuaries of the Poma, from where the procession will start tomorrow afternoon for the church of Porto Mantovano, along the Cisa.
