Farewell to Lino Capolicchio, the unforgettable protagonist of “The garden of the Finzi Contini”

Born in Merano and raised in Turin, he then moved to Rome, where he attended the ‘Silvio D’Amico’ National Academy of Dramatic Art. His professional beginnings took place at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan in the company of

Giorgio Strehler,

where he made his debut in Carlo Goldoni’s Le baruffe chiozzotte (1964).

After other successes in the theater, Capolicchio is hired by Rai which entrusts him with a role in the drama “The Count of Montecristo”.

Among the most important films of his long film career, in addition to “The Garden of the Finzi Contini” of 1970, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1971 and the Oscar for best foreign film in 1972, we remember also “Put, one evening for dinner” by

Giuseppe Patroni Griffi

and “The Normal Young Man” by

Dino Risi.

His association with

Pupi Avati

with whom he works as the protagonist in ‘The house of laughing windows’, but also in “The stars in the ditch” (1978), “Ultimo minute” (1987), “Una boundless youth” (2010) and the most recent “Il mister devil “(2019).
