Born in 1942 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, of English parents, Clare Peploe grew up between England and Italy: from a young age she developed a great interest in cinema and art, studying first at the Sorbonne in Paris. and then at the University of Perugia.

His career has been studded with many successes and marked by important collaborations with great names in Italian cinema: his activity began in 1970 as assistant director of Michelangelo Antonioni in Zabriskie Point.

Six years later Clare first met Bernardo Bertolucci, working with him in the creation of Twentieth century, one of the director’s cult films. It was he who saw a great talent in Peploe, so much so that he wanted her again by his side a few years later for the film The Moon, which marked her debut as a screenwriter. Their professional partnership, born before their love, then marked the beginning of that a bond that remained indissoluble for almost 40 years.

In her career Clare devoted herself not only to screenplay, but also to directing: after making the short film in 1981 Couples and Robbers, nominated for an Oscar and a British Academy Award, in 1987 Peploe made his first feature film High Season, winner of the Silver Shell in San Sebastian.
