(ANSA) – GENOA, JAN 10 – Gaudenzio Bernasconi, the historic defender of Sampdoria between the 1950s and 1960s, died this morning at the age of 90. Bernasconi held the record for appearances for a long time with the blucerchiata shirt, taking the field on 365 occasions and also earning the national team with 6 appearances. Jersey number 5, Bernasconi – nicknamed Orsacchiotto – was never sent off and played 133 games consecutively between ’54 and ’59. The club, still shaken by the disappearances of Mihajlovic and Vialli, remembered him with a long message on their website and on their social networks, expressing “the company’s deepest condolences to his wife Anna and to the entire Bernasconi family”.
