On May 31, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., there will be a farewell ceremony for the choreographer, Honorary Director of the Song and Dance Festival, Ulda Štein, the Latvian National Culture Center (LNKC) informed LETA agency.
Stein died on May 23. He was born on July 28, 1935 in Riga. Šteins has worked all his life in one basic workplace – Riga Cinema Studio, moving up the career ladder in various positions.
In his life, Steins led only one dance ensemble – “Vektors”. Šteins was one of the most respected Latvian stage dance masters, leaders of dance groups and chief leaders of Dance Festivals of various scales.
He is described as a dance engineer with constructive thinking, logical mind, thoughtful actions, balanced and calm temperament, loyal and democratic attitude towards both higher and lower ranks in the field of dance.
After graduating from the Riga Polytechnic Institute in 1959, Šteins started working at the Riga Film Studio as chief engineer, later as deputy director and director, taught film technology at the Latvian Academy of Culture.
Steins discovered his love for folk dance as a child, dancing in children’s dance groups. Later, he increased his knowledge by dancing in the folk dance ensemble “Dancis”.
Steins achieved great success by leading the dance group “Vektors” since 1960, which is proud of the high results it has achieved under Stein’s leadership – already in 1963, it won the title of Folk Dance Ensemble, and then won countless prizes in dance festival shows and various competitions.
The artist is the author of several dances, which have been awarded both in creativity competitions and danced at dance festivals. He has received the Dance Award for Lifetime Achievement, as well as the Order of the Three Stars.
