A far-right activist takes action desecration of the Qur’an during a demonstration held outside the embassy Turki Tue The Hague, Dutch. In the action, the activist trampled and tore up the copy of the holy book of Islamic teachings.
As reported AFPSaturday (19/8/2023), the Dutch government has condemned the demonstration that was held ahead of the provocative action that was carried out on Friday (18/8) local time, but they also said they had no legal force to prevent it.
Edwin Wagensveld, who is the leader of the Dutch branch of the right-wing group Pegida, damaged a copy of the Koran in an action accompanied by two other people. Some correspondence AFP witnessed Wagensveld’s desecration of the Koran.

The local police have closed access to the street where the Turkish Embassy is located The Hague during a demonstration held by right-wing activists on Friday (18/8) local time. There was a counter-demonstration at the site, which was attended by around 50 demonstrators.
Some of the demonstrators started pelting Wagensveld with rocks, as he began tearing up several pages of the Koran in the act.
Around 20 police personnel equipped with shields and batons intervened when a number of demonstrators tried to chase Wagensveld when he left the location.
On Friday (18/8) morning, before the provocative action was carried out by Wagensveld, the Dutch Minister of Justice who was born in Turkey, Dilan Yesilgoz, called the plan to desecrate the Koran “quite primitive and sad”.
However, Yesilgoz added, the law in the Netherlands allows such demonstrations.
