Far fewer visitors to Dutch stages • Also new measures in Curaçao

Due to corona, the Dutch stages attracted a total of 5.3 million visitors last year. That is more than 14 million fewer than in 2019, CBS reports. The number of performances and concerts was halved. Income from ticket sales, food and drink, among other things, fell by 69 percent.

The total turnover of the sector was 663 million, 27 percent less than in 2019. The fact that there was also almost a third less in costs did not make up for the decline in income, says CBS. In particular, far fewer people attended pop concerts: 1.8 million in 2020 compared to 7.5 million a year earlier.

Statistics Netherlands writes that most podiums did not suffer a loss due to the government support packages. The professional stages received 119 million euros in support. Two-thirds of this went to large stages that can accommodate more than a thousand visitors. In general, they also had the highest personnel costs.
