Far Cry 6 will address political issues

Politics in games has long been a controversial topic. As a result, developers often stay away from questions about politics in their games, but for Far Cry 6 makes Ubisoft an exception.

In a longer blog post History director Navid Khavari confirms that the upcoming shooting game will actually tell a political story. As he writes, there is something you can not get away with when building a game around a revolution.

– Our history is political. It must be a story of a modern revolution. There are difficult and relevant discussions in Far Cry 6 such as the conditions that lead to fascism in a country, what imperialism costs the people, forced labor, the need for free and fair elections, LGBTQ + rights and more with a view to Yara, a fictional island in caribbean.

No direct link to real revolutions

The statement follows an interview Khavari did in connection with the unveiling of Far Cry 6 last week. Opposite the website TheGamer the head of history seemed to suggest that there would be no political themes at all, which is not entirely true.

Furthermore, in the Ubisoft blog, Khavari points out that the team has been careful to link the Far Cry 6 story directly to real revolutions – such as Cuba. Ubisoft also brought in a number of experts to ensure that the story being told shows both respect and sensitivity to what is a difficult topic.

– We have tried to tell a story with action, adventure and soul, but also one that is not afraid to ask difficult questions. The Far Cry series always tries to balance mature, complex themes with humor. One cannot exist without the other, and we have tried to achieve this balance with care.
