Fantasy Park has taken shape, the works in the park have advanced a lot, but even this project was not ready on the promised date. Despite the obstacles in the construction site, Olguţa Vasilescu visited the park and took the opportunity to make a video for Tik-Tok. The mayor of Craiova has been betting more and more on social networks lately. Therefore, he always has people around who film or take photos just to have material to share on Facebook and, more recently, on Tik-Tok.

We also visited the construction site in the former Corniţoiu Park. In addition to the footage shot by the mayor’s team, there are still areas where there is still a lot of work to be done. Basically, in Olguţa Vasilescu’s video, only the completed constructions appear, not the unfinished part. When describing the shared video, Olguţa Vasilescu wrote: “We are preparing Fantasy Park”. But he failed to tell the citizens when it would be ready. A site manager told us, on Monday, that at least two more weeks are needed until they are ready with the arrangement of the entire park.
On Monday, they were working on a water pipe, there was still mud in the areas where nothing was planted, and the lawn was not planted on a fairly large area of the park. But, the good part is that compared to the last visit, you can see the evolution, and the back area is almost completely landscaped. A children’s playground was built and many trees and shrubs were planted. Also, pavers were laid on all the alleys. Also, on the sloped area from Pârâului street, plants have been placed which, when mature, will cover the entire surface of the earth in green.
The imprint of the town hall is not missing from Fantasy Park, which wanted the presence of a fierce monster, carved in stone. This is probably one of the “fantasy” elements in the park. The style is similar to the scary wooden statues located on a side alley in the Botanical Garden. Very excited by the monster from Fantasy Park, Olguţa Vasilescu wanted to touch him, a moment captured in the video published on her Tik-Tok page.
How much did it cost to set up the park?
The subject of the entire contract relating to the development of Fantasy Park is “Urban regeneration in Craiova municipality by revitalizing the Cornițoiu area”. Its estimated value was 7,985,567 lei (without VAT). The tender was won by the association of companies Oltenia Garden SRL – Bugaru Trans SRL – Yardman SRL. This association offered the price of 7,249,189.20 lei (without VAT), i.e. approximately 1.8 million euros with VAT.
The initial promise from the mayor’s office was that the park would be open to Craiova residents in August 2023. This did not happen, as the work crews encountered problems due to rainwater. It was necessary to install special drains so that the water does not create problems on that land.
The last deadline submitted by the representative of Oltenia Garden, one of the companies working on the project, for the completion of Fantasy Park was October 15. However, we have already exceeded that date, and there is still work to be done in the field. It would not be surprising if the inauguration of the new park takes place around the opening of the Christmas Market, which will take place on November 17.
All in all, beyond the delays that occurred within the project, the entire area of the former Corniţoiu Park was brought to light.
Still looking for a builder for the Skate Park
In the premises of Fantasy Park, the city hall wants to build a Skate Park, for lovers of this sport. However, for the time being, the execution has not started for this one, and the town hall is looking for a builder. That’s why he put the execution contract up for auction, and October 18 is the last day when willing companies can submit their bids. It is about a contract with a total estimated value of 13,668,595 lei, excluding VAT. In addition to the money for the execution, the mayor’s office put another 671,118 lei for its design. Most likely, the Skate Park will be ready towards the end of next year.
