Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them It was the risky move by Warner Bros. Pictures to not let the fantasy world of Harry Potter on the big screen. What seemed like a new and unexplored story quickly became a film with the origins of the greatest wizard in the magical world and his secret relationship with a villain, for many, more bloodthirsty than Voldemort.
Released at the end of 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them got a good reception among fans of Harry Potter, with a novel proposal on the conception of the magical world, but, above all, for the enormous gallery of fantastic creatures that adorned the production. The latter, in fact, subtly coincided with the phenomenon of Pokémon GO in those years.
WHAT IS FANTASTIC BEASTS ABOUT AND WHERE TO FIND THEM?
“In 1926, zoological wizard Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) makes a brief stop in New York as he travels cataloging and capturing magical creatures around the world. Jacob (Dan Fogler), an ordinary human, mistakenly causes the creatures to escape and hide around the city. “Scamander will have to catch them again, before they cause problems.”
Despite the initial premise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hidden a side story about the mythical villain of the Wizarding World, Gellert Grindelwald and his quest to subdue humanity. Throughout the plot, Scamander’s creatures end up in the dark wizard’s path, sparking the beginning of an unexpected rivalry.
Taking into account the complicated year of 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them achieved a collection of more than 816 million dollars worldwide, remaining in eighth place at the world box office that year. Unfortunately, the sequels lost the fantastic path of Newt’s creatures, and the legal problems of his antagonist, Johnny Depp, have left the project in a limbo between cancellation and oblivion.
