Steffen Henssler, known from “Grill den Henssler”, receives negative feedback: A schnitzel offered in his “Ahoi” restaurant is torn apart by fans.

Wendtorf – The Reddit-Group “Schnitzelverbrechen” (“Schnitzel Crime”). Or should we say “81,000 full members”? In any case, fans of this dish exchange ideas about particularly unpleasant schnitzels. At the weekend, it is also permitted to so-called “reference schnitzel” where everything is correct. Or almost everything, because there is always something to complain about. Sometimes is that just the price. Even insider tips like a Guesthouse in Bavaria with an astonishing price-performance ratio are discussed.

VOX star Steffen Henssler (“Grill den Henssler”) is the name behind “Ahoi”

These days, a schnitzel is being discussed that is certainly not the worst in the world. But it has disappointed many people’s expectations. Because there is a celebrity chef behind it: The photo is said to have been taken in the “Ahoi” in the Marina Wendtorf on the Baltic Sea. A restaurant, behind the “Grill den Henssler” star chef Steffen Henssler stands with his nameeven if he probably didn’t prepare it. It is not certain whether the photo is real; a query from our editorial team to “Ahoi” initially remained unanswered. But there is nothing to suggest that it is a fake.

However, the plate and table match a photo that was uploaded to Google by “Ahoi” itself in March. As does the whole schnitzel look. The official photo also shows cranberries, lemon and a few more fries. In any case, it can be assumed that the photo is real – and that the guest at most ate a little bit of it, such as the decoration.

Schnitzel sight from Henssler restaurant does not appeal to fans of the dish

Many users were negatively surprised by the sight. “This is anything but schnitzel. It almost looks like frozen food,” one person wrote. “This sight makes me sad, very sad… and thirsty,” wrote another person. Another user was even more explicit: “Frozen schnitzel and 20 fries? The breading is sticky as if it had eagle owl in it, the browning was far too even – the thing was in the deep fryer. The chef has obviously never heard of souffléing. Even the fries are ruined, no browning. Not in the deep fryer long enough. And what are these 3 mini shreds of greens? Did the chef confuse the plate with the compost heap? I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Price?”

“For this, Henssler deserves to be grilled, but several times at once”

The question is answered promptly: the schnitzel cost 19.50 euros on the Baltic Sea. That corresponds to the “Schnitzel Ahoi-Style” on the official online menu. Too much money for too little schnitzel, some judge. “I would have sent the schnitzel back,” says one. Another finds the offer “pathetic.” Another says: “For that, Henssler should be grilled, but several times! The High Schnitzel Court is handing this case over to Laura Wontorra for processing.”

Many of course also refer to Henssler, who is one of Germany’s best-known chefs, not only thanks to the VOX series “Grill den Henssler” with Laura Wontorra, and who is behind the “Ahoi” with his name. Several people are skeptical that a frozen schnitzel was used in his Baltic Sea restaurant, but it is unlikely. “Maybe he just cut the beaten schnitzel in half? He can’t really afford frozen food,” says one user. “A pure cash grab with his name” and “What loveless junk, typical Henssler,” write others.

Henssler chain “Ahoi”: “It had little to do with really good cuisine”

One user claims to have been to an “Ahoi” restaurant: “It’s just a franchise. I’d seen the schnitzel before and so luckily I ordered fish and chips. It tasted OK and there were a few more fries on top, but it had little to do with really good food.”

Another praises Henssler’s cooking skills, at least in his more upscale restaurants: “The franchise stores are rubbish, the ‘Henssler & Henssler’ and the ‘Ono’ are still top notch.” Incidentally, the Baltic Sea “Ahoi” in Wendtdorf has an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google Maps. So it can’t be that bad. A scandal recently occurred when an adult woman insisted on a children’s schnitzel in a restaurant. (lin)
