Fans on the forest side attack Nancy Faeser again

The supporters of 1. FC Union Berlin once again publicly criticized Interior Minister Nancy Faeser’s policies at the home game against Borussia Dortmund. The fans on the forest side rolled out a banner again for their attack. It read: “Police state methods over civil rights? Security over freedom? Nancy Faeser: Time to decide.”

It is the third banner attack on the Interior Minister in what is now the third home game in a row. There were similar sayings against St. Pauli at the end of August and against TSG Hoffenheim two weeks ago.

The banner against St. Pauli read: “Secret house searches and facial recognition software: act free and democratic abroad, but live out autocratic fantasies at home. Nancy Faeser, who do you want to be, Sozi or Stasi pig.” This inevitably implies the accusation of hypocrisy. Against Hoffenheim one could read on the Waldseite: “What was once the wet dream of the Stasi will be reality tomorrow. Nancy’s new law shows how it’s done. Faeser, who do you want to be: a socialist or a Stasi pig?!”

The background is the increased security measures that the federal government is planning. After the knife attacks in Mannheim and Solingen, the federal government wants to enforce stricter gun laws. To this end, Faeser wants to tighten controls at public events. This also includes football games. AI will also be used to monitor visitors. The fans, especially the ultras of all clubs, fear harsh repression.
