Fans no longer want to see eight clubs in the Bundesliga

Several times a year I ask here in the newsletter and over at Facebookwhat your dream Bundesliga would look like. 58 clubs have played in the top division since the league was founded. Every fan was allowed to vote for the 18 clubs that they would like to see in the top division. Once again, the result amazed me.

The teams that received the most votes were: Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bayern only came in 10th place. From the 2nd league: Hamburger SV, Schalke 04, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, 1. FC Nürnberg, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Hertha BSC and 1. FC Köln as well as from the 3rd league 1860 Munich.

  1. Borussia Dortmund (91.92%)
  2. VfB Stuttgart (89.15%)
  3. Mönchengladbach (88.68%)
  4. Werder Bremen (88.22%)
  5. FC Bayern Munich (86.84%)
  6. 1. FC Cologne (86.14%)
  7. Schalke 04 (85,68 %)
  8. Hamburger SV (85.45%)
  9. 1. FC Kaiserslautern (81.99%)
  10. Bayern Munich (77.37%)
  11. 1. FC Nuremberg (68.82%)
  12. 1860 München (60,51 %)
  13. Fortuna Düsseldorf (56,35 %)
  14. Hertha BSC (55,20 %)
  15. VfL Bochum (54.04%)
  16. SC Freiburg (54,04 %)
  17. FC St. Pauli (44,80 %)
  18. Bayer Leverkusen (44.57%)

The following six first division teams are not included: RB Leipzig and Holstein Kiel, VfL Wolfsburg and TSG Hoffenheim, 1. FC Heidenheim and FC Augsburg as well as Mainz 05 and Union Berlin. It is immediately clear that sporting aspects alone are not the deciding factor in which teams you would like to have in the Bundesliga.
