Fans ‘ignore’ Mexican team in Dallas – Entrelineas

The Mexican national team football team suffered a defeat like never before in the home of the Dallas Cowboys since before facing Canadathis Tuesday night.

El Tricolor was ignored by a large part of its fans in the region or by those who have generally had one of the best attendances at its games in the United States in the last 15 years.

The 32,626 paying fans were the fewest in 10 games played at AT&T Stadium, less than half the average over the previous nine games.

Since the stadium opened in Arlington in June 2009, it has averaged 73,557 people per game. And since 1995, the average has been 56,119 tickets sold in 18 games played in the past 30 years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

In fact, the entrance improved considerably as it progressed because at the time of the National Anthem ceremony it looked almost deserted.

El Tricolor faced its second friendly match since being eliminated in the group stage of the Copa América last July and the second under the command of the new technical director, Javier Aguirre, who is in his third stage as Mexico’s coach.

“This is a process for 2026,” Aguirre said Monday at a news conference. “Filling the stands… This is a ‘stadium’… You have to watch the game between the United States and Canada. There were fewer (people) than at our game (at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Saturday). It’s not that easy.”

“I insist that people will keep in mind that when they see their team improving, committed and feeling proud of their team, they will get closer,” he added. “I have no doubt about that.”

As of midday Tuesday, the Cowboys’ official ticketing company, SeatGeek.com, was only offering tickets for section 200, which represents the second level of seating in the stadium, starting at an average of $40 per ticket.

Tickets were not offered in the upper seating levels, sections 300 and 400.

“We understand everything that is said about us because we have not had good results,” said the Mexican player. Israel Reyes“We are working to do things differently so that people enjoy watching us play and go home happy.”
