【Now Sports】The World Cup in Qatar started on Sunday. A large number of fans have already gone to the venue. However, everyone complained about the poor environment of the container fan village, which is like a square cabin. Some people have even been threatened by local officials for this reason. Due to limited hotel rooms in Qatar, it is difficult to accommodate more than 1.2 million fans during the World Cup, so the government built 3 container fan villages, with room rates starting at US$200 per night.
After checking in, many fans criticized the “cheap” accommodation similar to the square booths. Mahmooditar from Iran said, “I am 6 feet tall and the bed is too small. There is no place to move in there, and the noise of the air conditioner is too loud. You can’t sleep. The bathroom is also not very large. It’s ridiculous that I would pay that much to live in this jar.”
“I paid about $200 a night and knew that for $100 I could get a room and a meal in a 5-star hotel. This is not how tourists are treated. We pay so much to come here. I’m a man of business, but not rich.” In addition to the poor condition of the rooms, the load-bearing structures of the container fan village are not perfect. The fitness center and tennis courts mentioned in the beginning are gone, and some parts are still unfinished, and are still like land.
Due to the many negative comments about the container fan village, the Qatar government has been closely monitoring the relevant online comments. Danish journalist Rasmus Tantholdt was harassed by security guards and officials while he was filming the real situation in the container fan village, and was even threatened to blow up his camera. Subsequently, the Qatar International Media Office and the Qatar High Council apologized.
