From this adventure, the young woman has just returned. “At the beginning of 2020, I reread “The Northern Kingdoms” by Philip Pullman. Like the heroine, I wanted to own a magic object. I found it at the Le Nombre d’or shop, rue d’Espagne. A divinatory oracle (tarot) which belonged to the Mage Edmondthen was lost for a century, before being found with another diviner,” says Fanny, smiling.
Dedication to Livrevou
Fanny Caldin is signing her book “La Cartomancienne” (Éditions Robert Laffont, “R” collection, 448 pages, 19 euros), Saturday May 20, from 6 p.m., at the Livrevou bookstore, 10, allée Vega, in Anglet.
The taste of stories
Since her earliest childhood, she has loved telling and writing stories. She gave free rein to her imagination to retrace the path of this long-vanished object. As usual, she wrote down the ideas that came to her in a notebook. “I always take a lot of notes, I write down lots of details. »
The more I wrote, the more the thread unfolded, and the more ideas I had
Until then, these notes were used to write stories for herself, without thinking of having them read. This time, however, she had the feeling that she had an idea that could take shape. “The confinement arrived and I had a lot of time to write. The more I wrote, the more the thread unfolded, and the more ideas I had,” she says. “I then spent a lot of time correcting. I also entrusted the manuscript to a bookseller friend and to my mother who was a teacher. It’s the first time that my writing has been reviewed and they were positive. »
A second volume on the way
She dared to send it to a dozen publishing houses. “Those of the authors that I prefer. I received quite quickly an answer from Didier jeunesse, specialized in children’s literature. They told me that they liked my book, but that it was more intended for an audience of teenagers or young adults. »
Six months later, she received a call from Robert Laffont. “I had started at Livrevou a week ago. I didn’t think I had an answer anymore. The person I spoke to on the phone told me: “If you haven’t yet been published, we will publish you”. We were at the beginning of October. I was able to have a real look at the making of the book. I wanted it to be illustrated with reproductions of my oracle cards. Robert Laffont provided me with contacts. I chose Tiffanie Uldry, from the workshop Thyonesca. She did a superb job. »
