According to the Fanc, the youngest Belgian nuclear reactors can be kept in use longer than planned, but only if Engie wants to join.

The Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC) has drawn up a report on the extension of the service life of two nuclear reactors Doel 4 and Tihange 3. In the field of nuclear safety, according to the Fanc, this can be done with the “necessary updates of the installations”.

But the Fanc also sets conditions: “To get everything in order by 2025, it is first and foremost necessary for the government to take a clear decision in the first quarter of 2022, but also for a global approach involving all the actors involved. is being worked out.”

Engie has already made it clear that she does not want an extension of the reactors.
