Wout Weghorst is often praised for his fanatical attitude. but on Thursday it cost him his place in the training of VfL Wolfsburg. The striker was dismissed after criticizing the leadership.
Weghorst was a bit too fanatical during a game of foot volley and already received a warning from assistant Michael Angerschmid. When he reacted disproportionately again, head coach Olver Glasner dismissed him. “Weghorst is someone who always wants to win, also in training”, he is quoted by German media. “He was angry about an arbitration decision, too angry in my eyes. That’s why I intervened.”
However, Weghorst is not in trouble. Moments later, he rejoined the party to speak and apologize, and the Wolfsburg players applauded him.
Weghorst now plays at Wolfsburg for two seasons. His contract will run until 2023.
