On Sunday the DTTB offers a family tournament, and Tuesday is school day. There is always virtual reality table tennis (see below), and there is also an outdoor table outside for which you can borrow rackets and balls for free at the information desk at the main entrance. Of course, you can also use your own game materials.
VR table tennis
Table tennis works surprisingly well in virtual reality. DTTB sports development employee Gabriel Eckhardt describes how close virtual table tennis is to the real sport: “It is so realistic that recently someone almost dropped the game equipment on the floor because they wanted to put their racket on the virtual table after the game was over.” If you put on the wireless VR glasses, you stand directly at the table of artificially created 360-degree reality in 3D while playing the game “Eleven Table Tennis VR”. An adapter on the controller ensures that the gaming device can be held like a table tennis bat. “From elementary school students to elderly seniors, whether beginners or advanced students, everyone has fun,” says Eckhardt. By the way, the spectators at the DTTB VR stand see what the VR player sees. A 55-inch screen shows the game scene visible to the outside, and a camera streams the player’s movements.
Interest? Just come by, register at the DTTB’s VR information desk, there’s a short introduction and you’re off to a sentence against the computer! The stand is located on the left side of the hall near the main entrance and is occupied on all eight tournament days.
