The creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender on The Legend of Korra working on a new series, as well as a feature film in the franchise. In fact, it turns out they’re working on multiple movies now.
Brian Robbins is the CEO of Nickelodeon and responsible for content aimed at children and families. During an interview, he talked about the new cinema films to be made in the franchise. And no: they will not be live-action films.
Making animated movies
Creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko spent some time working with Netflix on a live-action series around Avatar: The Last Airbender. They broke up over creative differences, but then co-founded Avatar Studios with Nickelodeon.
They use this to develop new films and series in the franchise.
“One of the bigger projects we’re working on when it comes to cinema is Avatar. We signed a deal with the creators of Avatar to bring them back to the studio. They started Avatar Studios and are now busy with the development of a series of CG movies and a new Avatar series,” said Robbins.
It is not known what exactly the films should be about, but it is clear that they are new parts of the Avatarto explore the universe.
