A fan of The Last of Us decided to create a short film inspired by the Naughty Dog franchise. called from Stay (In literal translation), the video does not address the relationship between Joel, Ellie or any other main character, but that of two strangers: Emily and Sean.
They are normal people trying to survive the apocalypse. The film shows the pair trying to reach the pier in Santa Monica, in the United States, and intersperses moments of calm and romance with tense scenes of action. Everything seems to be going well, until… an accident happens. Watch the video below (in English). But beware, reader: I myself cried watching this short. Continue at your own risk:
“We were inspired by the parallel stories found in the game. As a gamer, it felt like there were a lot of narratives to discover, of the humanity that was left behind,” screenwriter and director Joshua Toonen told Kotaku. He previously worked on the visual effects team for the films Captain Marvel and Godzilla vs. Kong. “I felt this was a great opportunity to create a narrative of our own and show that everyone infected has their own story that has never been told.”
One of the references of Stay was another art created by a fan, the artist Santiago Betancur. The illustration shows two corpses embracing: a human and a Clicker (third stage of an Infected).
The film had the collaboration of at least 40 artists; even with an Ellie lookalike, who sings and plays the guitar. She appears in the short’s opening and closing scenes, which are very reminiscent of the ad trailer for The Last of Us Part II, unveiled in 2016.
please note that Stay is a project made entirely by fans — just like so many others around the internet, like the Project Spores movie. The film has no connection with developer Naughty Dog or HBO, which is producing a TV series with real actors.
Please let me know in the comments if you cried too.
