Warning, this article contains spoilers for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015) and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (2017).
It regularly happens that directors of large franchises allow themselves to have fun in between and hide small hints – so-called “Easter eggs” – in their films. The main goal is to keep the fans puzzling and guessing until someone sees the clue with a particularly sharp look. This is obviously also the case with “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (2017): As a fan now suspected on Twitter, a mini homage to Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford) can be discovered in the opening scene of the eighth part famously in the seventh part “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015) was killed. After the fan made his theory public on Twitter, director Rian Johnson now also commented on the suspicion – and confirmed his suspicion with a GIF.
“Star Wars” director went into the fan theory – and confirmed it
But which scene is actually meant? In his tweet, the fan refers to an opening sequence from “The Last Jedi”, in which the resistance takes up the fight against the First Order and sends them to flight with bombs. In that scene, the bombs in a spaceship are shown for a brief moment; on some of them you can clearly see white characters. According to the fan, the extraterrestrial characters can be translated as “Han says hello” – a small tribute to the hero who recently died. To make his suspicions public, the fan wrote on Twitter, “Am I the last one who knows that the resistance in ‘The Last Jedi’ wrote ‘Han says hello’ on one of the bombs?” And linked director Rian Johnson the words “I love you even more, you beautiful bastard”.
Johnson did not have to wait long to answer: Shortly afterwards, the filmmaker shared a GIF on Twitter showing Han Solo raising his hand in greeting – a subtle way of confirming the fan theory.

Ten new “Star Wars” films and spin-offs are planned
Just last December, Disney announced ten new series around the “Star Wars” universe. One of these projects: the spin-off from Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Jedi Master was portrayed in “Star Wars” episodes I-III by the Scottish actor Ewan McGregor. The 49-year-old also plays the leading role Obi-Wan Kenobi in the new series. A “Rogue One” prequel with the title “Andor”, the animated series “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” and a separate series on Lando Calrissian are also planned. The already successful series “The Mandalorian” will even have two spin-off series – including the show “The Book of Boba Fett”, which will be released in December 2021.
