On November 23, Rafael Amaya Motomochi, professor at the Faculty of Music (FAMUS), won first place at the XII International Creativity Competition “Music and Electronics”, held in Moscow, Russia.
A career graduate of music composition from UANL’s FAMUS and a master’s degree in composition and arrangement from Tito Puente University, Amaya Motomochi was also just notified as a recipient of the Program for the Encouragement of Artistic Creation and Development (PECDA) in the composer category.
First of all, the Monterrey musician told how he learned of the announcement of the renowned international competition.
“I wasn’t aware of this call, but while I was in a master class at the Composers Center, a Russian professor from FAMUS shared it, and a friend suggested I submit my composition,” he said.
“I had composed a song during the pandemic that was requested by a faculty percussion group. The project went very well because after writing and editing it, it was recorded in a video that was part of the documentary of the Q-sión Horizontes tímbricos group, supported by CEIIDA UANL through its program of Investigation in the Arts in its edition,” he said the professor
Already determined to enter the competition, the professor needed to find someone to help him understand the requirements of the call since it was written entirely in Russian, so he resorted to a digital translation platform as well as having the help of native teachers. From Russia.
