Sokratis Famellos launched an attack on the governing majority and on Adonis Georgiadis from the floor of the Parliament, stressing that the co-optation leads to the closure of large mental health and addiction structures for the benefit of private interests.
Taking the floor during the discussion of the bill – “extremism”, as he described it, the head of K.O. of SYRIZA called the new framework for mental health structures “deeply unscientific and anachronistic”.
“We have in front of us a “bureaucratic monstrosity”, as the agencies and the opposition as a whole characterize it, a bill with which the government proceeds with the complete dismantling of mental health and addiction services and the complete privatization and commercialization of these particularly sensitive sectors of the of the National Health System,” he said.
He meaningfully recalled the controversial statements of the responsible deputy minister, Mr. Vartzopoulos, who had argued that “feminicide has a biological basis – women are for tickling”, while he read excerpts from the critical resolution submitted to the parties today by the president of the Panhellenic Medical Association and “blue” politician, Thanasis Hexadaktylos.
“You legislate on the altar of the profit of some cronies”
In the same tone, he criticized the governmental interventions in the rehabilitation structures. “The Government aims for drug addiction to cease to be an obligation of the State, to be disconnected from the right to treatment and of course to become a ballast of the market” he argued, adding:
“Structures with a completely different approach to addiction will be merged (KETHEA, 18 Ano, OKANA, Argo, Diaplous, etc.) and do you consider this to be scientific? Is it scientific to eliminate the “dry” programs and emphasize replacement programs so that big pharma can win? All these monstrosities are legislated on the altar of the profit of a few cronies. In front of profit, you don’t even consider human life!”.
Moral lessons and Polakis
Subsequently, he defended the deletion of P. Polakis from the KO, clarifying at the same time that this “does not negate the correct criticism he made to the leadership of the Ministry of Health for the destructive policy in the field of health”.
“Can we forget your recent unacceptable phrasing to Pavlos Polakis?” he said to Ad. Georgiadis and pointed out: “Of course, there the Bureau of the Commission and the Parliament did not show immediate reflexes and pretended not to listen to the vulgar order, the “ust” to Pavlos Polakis.
