Family’s Home Destroyed by Guy Fawkes Night Fire: A Heartbreaking Christmas Story

Lauren Bailey (30) and her family were supposed to celebrate the British holiday “Guy Fawkes Night” on Sunday last week in her hometown of Bradford, England. The evening ended in disaster.

The anniversary is marked with parades, fireworks, bonfires and food.

– We will be without a roof over our heads at Christmas if we don’t find a place to live before then, says Bailey to the Jam Press news agency.

The children’s presents also disappeared with the devastating fire. And with that, Christmas is ruined, Bailey explains to the news agency.

– I am so sorry that I have to have this conversation with the children. It will crush them completely, says the mother of two.

Out the windows

The fire is said to have started after fireworks landed in the family’s garden and set fire to the house. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and what started the fire has not yet been confirmed.

After the family of four had set off fireworks themselves in the garden earlier that afternoon, they cleaned up and went back into the house.

In the early evening the family crawled into bed. Two hours later, the fire alarm went off, waking Bailey up abruptly.

– I saw flames coming out of the children’s bedroom window, and I froze before the adrenaline kicked in, says the mother of two to Jam Press.

In a panic, she got the children out of bed and quickly out of the house.

– Suddenly all the windows broke. Flame went out, just like a forest fire. It swallowed our whole home, she says further.

A true nightmare

An alert neighbor immediately called the fire department.

Met by shock vision:- Very serious

After the night of the disaster, the family has been staying with Bailey’s mother.

– When we went to look at the house the next morning, it was just a big pile of dust and ash, says Bailey to Jam Press.

The family lost everything from clothes, photos and possessions.

– Right now we are taking it one step at a time, but it has been a real nightmare.
