A 6-month-pregnant woman in Assam, India, was told by a doctor at a local private hospital on the 3rd that she could only save the mother or the baby. As a result, the child she gave birth to was declared dead. It wasn’t until the baby was ready to be cremated that signs of life were discovered. Afterwards, the family members believed that the hospital had neglected its duties, so they filed a lawsuit.
According to reports from “New Delhi TV” and “Hindustan Times”, the baby’s father, Ratan Das, took his 6-month-pregnant wife to a private hospital in Silchar (Silchar) that evening. The doctor told me that only one of the mother or the baby could be saved due to difficulties in giving birth due to maternal complications. The family immediately decided to give birth to the child, but he was later pronounced dead.
The next morning, Ratandas received the baby’s general appearance and death certificate. However, when he arrived at the crematorium and was about to see the baby for the last time, he found that the baby actually cried and immediately sent him to the hospital for emergency treatment. He is still hospitalized. During the investigation, the family members also filed a lawsuit against the hospital and one of the doctors, believing that they had neglected their duties.
After the incident spread, many people gathered in front of the hospital to protest. Resident Sujit Das Choudhary criticized that the hospital only regarded the baby as garbage and kept it in a box for 8 years. For more than an hour, they didn’t even check whether he was breathing. However, the hospital refuted it. The medical staff had observed the baby for 8 hours before declaring him dead.
