Family outing ends in tragedy in the port of San José

A typical weekend family outing ended in a real tragedy on the beach. Port of San José, Escuintla.

After enjoying the beach, between laughter and jokes, a family that had come to have fun, could not imagine the nightmare they were going to live. This is because three of them were trapped in an alphaque and two of them died.

It all happened around midday on Sunday. After having lunch, three members of the Gramajo family decided to enter the sea. However, they did not realize that there was a alfaque, which dragged them out to sea.

Members of the Motorcycle Association observed what was happening and took action. They managed to get the people out. One of them was taken to a care center but she died. While on the beach a second victim lost his life and they only managed to rescue one of the people alive.

The deceased were identified by the authorities as: Juan Fernando Gramajo, 40 years old, and Rafael Gramajo, 14. While Gabriel Gramajo survived the accident. This family arrived at the Port of San José from the capital city, and reside in zone 21.

Authorities from the Public Ministry arrived at the scene to draw up the required report and transfer the remains to the INACIF morgue.
