The Singapore Ministry of Health has awarded $169,000 in compensation to the family of a Filipino woman who died of myocarditis that is “probably” related to the covid-19 booster dose she had been given for four days. before.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry, the state coroner, Adam Nakhoda, considered that the myocarditis from which Ontal Charlene Vargas, 43, died, “was likely to be related to the covid-19 vaccine.”

The compensation of 225,000 Singaporean dollars (169,000 dollars or 153,000 euros) has been delivered after the family of the deceased requested it thanks to a special program of the institutions of the city-State to financially assist people who have suffered damages due to the vaccines.

The woman received her dose of the Pfizer vaccine on December 9, 2021 and had to be hospitalized the next day for trouble breathing and chest pressure from myocarditis, which ended up causing her death on December 13.

Myocarditis, a condition that causes inflammation of the heart muscle that can affect its function, has been described as a possible adverse effect of coronavirus vaccines in some patients.

According to the Government of Singapore, the incidence of myocarditis caused by the covid-19 vaccine ranges from 0.0001 percent to 0.0011 percent, depending on the type of vaccine, and most of these cases are mild.

The Ministry of Health recalled in its note that this was the second death that could be linked to the covid-19 vaccine after having administered more than 17 million doses in the city-state.
