The family of the missing young man, Carlos Ernesto Santos Abarca, appeared before the Legislative Assembly to request support from the Security and Justice Committee, so that this legislative body requests information on Carlos’ whereabouts, since they as a family have been made invisible.

Carlos Ernesto Santos Abarca is a young university student who disappeared when he went out for a run, as part of his physical activities, on January 1, 2022, in the Monserrat neighborhood, in San Salvador.

“I would like to request your support from the Minister of Security, Gustavo Villatoro, who on May 16, 2023, gave statements in a morning interview and referred to the case of Carlos Ernesto Santos Abarca, who has been missing since January 1, 2022, mentioning that there are indications that he was alive and that he had been seen in the first days of January 2023 in different places,” states the document submitted to the commission.

On that occasion, the official said that the case of Santos Abarca was a case far removed from organized crime and that they were working to find him. Taking those words into consideration, the Abarca family submitted a letter to Minister Villatoro on February 9 of this year, in which they requested information about these proofs of life. However, to date “we have not received any response from him.”

“We hope that you, as the Security and Justice Commission of the Legislative Assembly, can communicate with the corresponding institutions and provide the family with this evidence,” they requested.
