Family of Argentine attack victim donates organs for transplant purposes

The family of Benjamin Gamond, a young Argentine who died as a result of an attack with a machete, decided to donate his organs for transplant purposes; The procurement was carried out today at the General Hospital of Mexico “Dr. Eduardo Liceaga” in Mexico City.

“This is how we say goodbye to you, little brother of the soul, like a hero,” wrote his brother Facundo Gamond in a video that he shared on his social networks, where you can see the journey, amid applause from medical personnel, of Benjamin’s body on a stretcher to the operating room to perform the extraction.

According to relatives, specialists hope to benefit at least 50 people through a transplant with one of the organs sought.

On May 12, Benjamín Gamond, 23 years old and originally from the Province of Córdoba, Argentinawas attacked without apparent cause, in Lagunas de Chacahua, Oaxaca.

The young man died due to the seriousness of the injuries, one to the head that exposed a part of the brain massand the time it took to transfer him to a second level medical unit to provide him with adequate care.

According to witnesses, 21-year-old Cruz Irving assaulted the young Argentine unexpectedly, and is currently in pretrial detention on charges of qualified homicide.

According to the municipal president of Villa de Tututepec, Oaxaca, Jesuhandy Conde Gomezbefore the attack “there were a couple of discussions between the young people, according to the witnesses, but not for what ended up happening.”

This because according to fernanda gonzalezmother of one of the young men attacked in Chacahua, had met the attacker on a boat, who told them that “he was from there and that whatever they needed to know he would walk along the coast.”

He also narrates that when they went to eat they found him, so Gamond approached him to ask if he knew where to buy surfboards. “The guy looked at them as if he didn’t know them, as if taken away; then ‘Benja’ left and told the boys ‘he spoke to me strangely, as if he didn’t know me'”.

He adds that later, when he finished having lunch at a beach kiosk, the assailant “ran out of nowhere like crazy and attacked Gamond in the face and head with a machete and the only thing he said was ‘They sent you, they sent you!’“.
