Family of 3 Found Dead in San Diego Home Investigation
San Diego Police Department officials confirmed that a husband, wife, and their 13-year-old daughter were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside their home in the San Carlos neighborhood. According to Sergeant Saum Poorsaleh, the adult victims were identified as David Voight and Amy Voight, alongside their teenage daughter.
Tragedy Unfolds on Boulder Lake Avenue
The grim discovery occurred on Wednesday morning inside a residence located in the 6800 block of Boulder Lake Avenue. Police responded to the scene after a neighbor entered the property. According to San Diego Police Department homicide Lieutenant Christopher Leahy, the neighbor frequently dog-sat for the family and had been trying to reach them since Tuesday night after hearing what she believed were gunshots at approximately 9:30 p.m.
When the 13-year-old girl did not leave for school Wednesday morning, the neighbor used her routine access to check on the household. She discovered the family deceased and alerted authorities. Responding officers recovered a firearm inside the home during their initial sweep.
Streets near the Boulder Lake Avenue home were closed to traffic for eight to ten hours as homicide detectives and crime scene units processed the area. According to Lieutenant Leahy, preliminary evidence points to an isolated incident. Authorities confirmed there was no evidence of forced entry into the home and stated there is no ongoing danger to the general community.
Impact on the San Carlos Community and Local Schools
Tyler Martin, a nearby resident, told reporters that the young victim was a classmate of his own daughter.

Pershing Middle School principal sent a letter to families later on Wednesday confirming the death of an eighth-grade student who attended the campus. The school refrained from releasing additional personal details out of respect for the grieving relatives and school community.
Ongoing Investigation and Next Steps
San Diego Police Department homicide detectives are leading the ongoing inquiry to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal shootings. Officials have not released further specifics regarding a potential motive or a definitive timeline for the preliminary autopsy results from the county medical examiner’s office.
Law enforcement agencies urge anyone with relevant information, security camera footage, or prior interactions with the family to contact authorities directly.
As the investigation remains active, detectives continue examining forensic evidence recovered from the San Carlos residence. Further updates will be released by the San Diego Police Department as the inquiry progresses.
