Family doctors and others are expected at the Family Medicine Conference with international participation”The delicate balance between science, art and communication”.
The event organized by the Bucharest-Ilfov Family Physicians Association (AMFB) is, this year, at the XX anniversary edition and will take place with physical presence, between March 27 and 30, 2024, in Bucharest. Also, on March 31, there will be post-conference courses.
The scientific sessions, practical workshops and post-conference courses will be diverse and will answer the questions and challenges of the family doctor’s office with up-to-date information.
From the conference program:
CARDIO-MF – The importance of detecting and treating iron deficiency in heart failure (Friday, March 29, 2024, 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m.)
“The CARDIO-MF working group invites you on Friday 29.03.2024 between 14.30-16.00 to discuss the importance of detecting and treating iron deficiency in heart failure with Dr. Irina Rosca. Do we know how to use the main antiarrhythmic drugs? We will look for an answer to this question together with Dr. Cristian Sandulescu. Dr. Rodica Tanasescu will provide us with current information about the approach to different types of dyslipidemia. Anticoagulant therapy is used more and more frequently in our practice, that is why we propose a practical presentation of the main situations that the family doctor faces in the office and of course the deciphering of the prescription protocols”

Peripheral arterial disease workshop (Saturday, March 30, 2024, 4:30-6:30 p.m.)
“We invite you to discuss together about peripheral arterial disease in a workshop on Saturday 30.03.2024 between 16.30-18.30. Some theoretical notions about various localizations of peripheral arterial disease will be followed by practical demonstrations of measuring the ankle-brachial index and discussions about possible cases from our offices. The exploration of the peripheral arteries helps to place the investigated person in a degree of cardiovascular risk and to detect organ damage in the hypertensive or diabetic patient. We are waiting for you to share your experience with us!”
Dr. Rodica Tanasescu-training doctor,
SL. dr. Mihaela Daniel Balt,
Dr. Daniel Galbenus
ECG interpretation workshop: basic notions and practical exercises (Thursday, March 28, 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.).
“We invite you on Thursday 28.03.2023 to the ECG Interpretation Workshop dedicated to family doctors. Basic notions regarding the interpretation of the normal ECG and the most frequent pathological aspects encountered in the family doctor’s practice will be presented. The practical part of interpreting some electrocardiographic traces, which will occupy most of the workshop, will also be the opportunity to clarify some questions, particular situations, tips & tricks that will help us in our activity.”

Ophthalmological screening in the family doctor’s office (Friday, March 29, 2024, 10.30-11.30)
Ophthalmological screening has different purposes depending on the patient’s age, following the stages of vision development. The visual system is not fully developed at birth, so a newborn is not able to see as clearly as an adult, he perceives more lights and shadows. The first symptoms and signs of visual impairment are noticed by the family doctor.
Neonatal ophthalmological screening is aimed at the early diagnosis of eye abnormalities, in this way the long-term visual deficiency can be reduced. If a treatable pathology is diagnosed in a few days after birth, an appropriate therapy can be indicated to facilitate the best conditions for the further development of visual functions. The traditional neonatal ophthalmological screening using the red reflex test is easy and cheap and can reveal the main congenital ophthalmic pathologies.
We will analyze the alarm signals that represent the indication for an ophthalmological consultation at any age. Ophthalmological tests recommended for a routine screening are represented by visual acuity assessment, contrast sensitivity assessment, color perception, astigmatism and visual field check. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends complete eye exams every 1 to 2 years for adults over 65. The occurrence of a decrease in functional capacity in the elderly adult, cognitive disorders or increased frequency of falls represent situations that require a visual assessment. .
The periodic ophthalmological evaluation of children, adults and the elderly is important through the early detection and correction of visual acuity disorders, contrast sensitivity, visual field evaluation.
