A Cuban family went to social networks to demand justice in the case of an elderly man who was murdered in Havana in mid-2022, who would have been attacked by the same people who were supposed to be in charge of taking care of him.
According to a publication shared by Internet user Mariel Sarría Suárez, daughter of the victim, the incident occurred more than a year and four months ago, when the young man in charge of taking care of him gave him a brutal beating.
The complaint, shared in the Facebook group ‘Only people from Luyanó’, identified the aggressor with the name of Jersson Guerra Arango, a resident of the Lawton neighborhood, located in the capital’s Diez de Octubre municipality.
The case was shared on social networks after the family did not receive the necessary attention from the Castro authorities. According to him, although the young man has been identified and the incident occurred more than a year ago, the regime has not carried out the trial, which has discouraged the family.
“I never made this comment on the networks, but I think the time has come, I want to ask for justice for the death of my father, the trial has not even been held yet and I ask for the maximum sentence for his attacker,” the woman wrote.
The victim’s daughter indicated that Guerra had been living in the old man’s home for more than seven years, and that he organized a party that lasted three days, during which he became drunk. The situation generated the anger of the victim.
“This individual had been drinking alcohol in my house for three days, completely insolent and unscrupulous, with the house full of people and my father upset by the situation,” the complaint states.
The attack allegedly occurred after the old man approached the drunk young man to ask for food. After the beating, the attacker left the old man in a bed, where he remained suffering from convulsions all night.
The family stressed that the young man did not even try to call the hospital, and that some neighbors heard the noise, but did not alert the police.
The old man was able to go to a health center after being found by his family, but by that time, the situation had worsened, and he could not save his life.
“I can’t handle so much pain, I have approached the corresponding institutions and they tell me that we have to wait, because they have many pending cases. I have been holding my chest tight for a year and four months, with that unexpected departure, when we were thinking of celebrating their 100th birthday and they took his life violently,” the woman later explained in the comments.
