In a few hours, the life of Patricia Jouberton and her family living in the Lot near Figeac was turned upside down. On the night of January 29 to 30, her husband Serge woke her up, overcome by pain. “It was 3 a.m. He was really not well. He told me: ‘my legs are paralyzing’. For him to ask me to call the fire brigade was because he was really bad” says with emotion the caregiver who waited almost an hour for help to arrive at her home in Lissac-et-Mouret.
“He went to the Figeac emergency room. His blood pressure was only 7. He was sweating a lot but he was conscious and spoke without problem.” The 64-year-old retired Lotois, with no particular history apart from diabetes, is admitted to hospital. His wife, worried, waits for news and calls the emergency services. “I was told he was resting. He underwent tests: an abdominal scan, a blood test and an ECG. At 11 a.m., he left with a prescription for painkillers and an appointment. you to take to a neurologist. They couldn’t find anything for him. I picked him up at the door. He wasn’t well at all, he was walking but was weak. His blood pressure was at 9. I was still surprised Let him go out like that.”

The family files a complaint to find out the truth
Back at home, Serge Jouberton’s condition does not improve as the day goes on. He complains of burns on his back in particular. “We saw him suffering. We couldn’t leave him like that. We also decided that the next day we would go to the Cahors hospital or elsewhere to get another opinion…” explains his daughter, Mélodie Duperret. Unfortunately the night was fatal for the Lotois man, whom his wife discovered lifeless in his bed on the morning of January 31. The shock is immense for the family, totally stunned by this sudden disappearance. “The doctor who came to the house to note the death was unable to tell us what exactly he had suffered. Perhaps a heart attack… but these are only suppositions” regrets Patricia Jouberton. In shock, she did not want her husband to undergo an autopsy. The funeral took place a few days later, Monday afternoon. A new very painful ordeal for the family which was not spared from the tragedies.

Today the anger is added to the sadness for those close to Serge Jouberton, consumed by doubts and unanswered questions. For her daughter Mélodie Duperret, the urgency is to know the truth. With her mother, she contacted the hospital and wishes to bear witness loud and clear to the misfortune that has just struck them. “How could we let him leave the hospital like that? I would like to know what he died of. We don’t even know which doctor saw him, the name doesn’t have on the prescription. was ticked… There was a lack of professionalism. It was not taken seriously” laments the young woman who decided to file a complaint. She went to the Figeac gendarmerie on Tuesday. “At least the hospital needs to be held accountable. I know there won’t really be any follow-up, but at least it will perhaps make things happen so that this doesn’t happen to others. .”

An internal investigation opened at Figeac hospital
Reached by telephone this Tuesday, the management of the Figeac hospital would first like to share its thoughts with the family of Serge Jouberton. “I understand his distress and I sympathize with the family’s grief” expresses Nathalie Escure, the director of the establishment.
