Family Fears Little Boy’s Return in La Bouilladisse: Update on Disappearance in Haut-Vernet

Almost two months after the disappearance of the little boy of two and a half years in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), his family fears his return to the town of La Bouilladisse (Bouches-du-Rhône) .

Seen in his garden by neighbors. No more no less. Little Émile’s grandfather recently left the family home in Le Vernet to go to La Bouilladisse, north of Aubagne.

“They are annihilated”

The man, known to his patients for his professionalism and his medical qualities, has still not resumed his activity as an osteopath. The answering machine, however, says that the practice must reopen on August 21. But no one knows when the practitioner will put the gown back on.

“Every year, it’s like this. He closes in July and returns to work in August. He has a big family to feed”, sympathizes, from his house in Vernet, a close friend of Émile’s family. She is one of the few residents to have had the grandmother on the phone since Saturday July 8 and the disappearance of the little boy.

“They are devastated and so sad. Undermined by what the neighbors dare to say and think about them. Some even go so far as to reproach her for going to the swimming pool when she has been going there for years mornings. There are still children and a life to take back. Let them be left alone!”, plagues this longtime friend.

By constituting a civil party with the judicial pole of Aix-en-Provence, the family of Émile has for a few weeks access to the file which continues to expand. And certain statements from the neighborhood make them fume.

Those who have recently met the relatives of Émile at Vernet in recent days are unanimous: the members of the family are devastated. By car, on foot or on horseback, they lower their heads and do not want to meet the gaze of almost anyone.

Change of parish

According to information from BFM DICI, the very pious family even decided to change parishes to participate in Sunday mass so as not to be recognized far from Vernet or Seyne.

“When he’s not playing tennis, one of Émile’s young uncles goes hiking. And even if he doesn’t talk about the disappearance, we feel he is very marked, very touched”, breathes a resident whose grandchildren cousins take part in these walks.

As for Emile’s grandmother, she is even more discreet than usual. “She appreciates the effort that has been made here to preserve their peace. The worst is when they go back downstairs.”

“Down” is in the south, in La Bouilladisse, Marseille, Toulon or Aubagne. The world, neighbours, shopkeepers or friends from sports clubs and the compassionate or suspicious gaze of their parents. If Émile’s youngest uncles and aunts benefit from the flexibility and discretion of homeschooling, the older ones must return to the benches of their higher education or simply to active life.

The cops still present

In the tumult of Marseille life, only the head of the family has resurfaced, unlike his wife and children who are still trying to enjoy the tranquility of the Bès valley. It must be said that life at Vernet is peaceful. The anchoïade and the festivities of August 15 took place normally. And the “return” party scheduled for September 9 promises to be just as friendly.

If the gendarmes were not spotted every morning, the locals could even imagine that nothing ever happened in this charming village.
