The task force with family doctors for long weekends and holidays against the clogging of emergency rooms in Liguria is operational in the upcoming weekend of the Immaculate Conception. “In consideration of the increase inthe circulation of respiratory viruses, we read in a note from the Liguria Region – in particular influenza and Covid, and considering the risk of overcrowding in emergency rooms on public holidays, the Liguria Region with Alisa, the Ligurian local health authorities and general practitioners have signed an agreement for the extraordinary opening of clinics, districts and medical practices, to respond to the needs of health that require a timely response, but for which access to the emergency room is not necessary. Relaunching and implementing last year’s experience, throughout Liguria, in collaboration with the local health authorities, actions have been defined in the districts to strengthen the offer which will be activated from 8 to 10 December on the occasion of the Immaculate Conception and then resumed in the next Christmas holidays”.

THE METHODS
In ASL1 and ASL2, 4 clinics will be operational in each slot on each of the three days, in ASL3 there will be 6, to which is added the white codes clinic in Pontedecimo open every day from 8am to 8pm, even on holidays. In ASL 4 the offices will be in the hospitals of Rapallo and Sestri Levante, while in ASL5 there will be six clinics operating for each time slot. “It’s about – explain the president Giovanni Toti and the Health Councilor Angelo Gratarola – of a coordinated and shared action to first respond to cases linked to influenza and flu-like syndromes, for which a medical consultation is deemed necessary, but, at the same time, going to the emergency room is not recommended. The offices of general practitioners and the clinics which will remain open will allow timely responses to be given, in particular to the elderly and frail. The population will therefore have an appropriate point of reference for the provision of all those services that can ordinarily be managed in the GP’s outpatient clinic, and thus avoid congestion in the emergency room with improper access”.
“As highlighted by the national and regional surveillance systems – explains the general director of Alisa Filippo Ansaldi – for some weeks there has been an increase in cases of flu and flu-like, with a consequent increase in visits to emergency rooms. We have therefore defined, together with general practitioners and local health authorities, a method of action that allows citizens to have a point of reference for local assistance on weekends and public holidays, starting with the Immaculate Conception” .
“We renewed last year’s agreement and showed good availability for this Immaculate Conception – declares the regional secretary of the FIMMG-Italian Federation of General Practitioners Andrea Stimamiglio – We hope that the imminent signing of the new regional integrative agreement AIR will make it possible in the future to provide a continuity of care clinic at least one per district in a systematic and organic manner”.
