Fasano – “It’s like having your team play with all the starters on the bench in the most important match of the league”- is the comment of Donato Monopoli, Secretary of Fimmg Puglia with respect to yesterday’s circular in which the Puglia Region announced the vaccination strategy in the area.
“General practitioners form a network with a widespread presence throughout the territory and with a direct trust relationship with patients. In full pandemic, in a month and a half we vaccinated 1.2 million people with the flu shot. I believe that family doctors have shown in the field that they constitute a fundamental resource in this moment of emergency. ” – Monopoli continues – “Instead, the Region sets up an alternative territorial model, all to be tested, which does not take family medicine into consideration and requires patients to book through alternative channels”.
“Elderly patients in bed or in home care will receive a call from an employee of the ASL, a complete stranger to them, who will ask them to be vaccinated. – Monopoli concludes – We are perplexed about the effectiveness of a vaccination campaign organized in this way, because the involvement of general practitioners is a fundamental and essential step to achieve the objectives.”
