Subaru Indonesia has started sending their latest SUV line to consumers. The detikOto team has carried out a complete test of this car in its highest type, namely the Subaru Forester S EyeSight.
With a boxer engine, advanced features that allow it to go on any track, and a distinctive Subaru platform, this Japanese manufacturer promises an enjoyable driving experience. Is that right?
Boxer Machine Makes Super Sensation!
The first time we set foot on the gas pedal and accelerated with this Forester, what we immediately caught was the calm and linear power distribution.

This character certainly comes from the Lineartronic CVT transmission which transmits power from the large engine to all four wheels, aka all-wheel drive.
When the gas is stepped deeper and we run in a fairly mid-up pull, the beast’s power from the engine just comes out. Not surprisingly, this is because the maximum power figure at 156 PS and 196 Nm of torque only peaked at 6,000 RPM and 4,000 RPM.
In our opinion, Subaru is trying to tame its large energy character with this CVT transmission. In addition, with the character of the distribution of power like this, it will certainly make the 1,995 cc boxer engine more efficient.
From our tests, this Subaru Forester is quite efficient. The average fuel consumption on toll routes with an average speed of 90 km per hour, reaching 17.8 km / liter.
As for routes within the city, with an average speed of 25 km per hour, the Subaru Forester is able to record a figure of 11 km per liter. Of course not a bad result considering the engine capacity is large enough.

The Handling and Suspension Concoction Makes Agile
One of Forester’s unique selling points lies in the platform used. This affects the control and driving comfort.
During this test, we took the Subaru Forester for a long-distance trip out of town on expressways and through off-road terrain that tends to be light.
As a result, the handling of this Subaru Forester is very good and feels solid. When driving on the highway and having to maneuver at high speed, the symptoms of SUV-style body roll are not felt.
But when passing through bad roads and having to force the suspension to work hard, this Subaru Forester is also reliable and able to make the cabin comfortable.
In our opinion, the presence of a boxer engine that makes the center of gravity lower, has succeeded in making the Subaru Forester control topnotch.
In addition, the suspension and platform mix that they are proud of turns out to work perfectly, and makes a pleasant driving impression.
But one thing that we think needs to be considered is the departure and approach angle of this car which is quite limited.
The long overhang position makes Subaru less tactical to be brought into unpredictable terrain. The feeling of being stuck or damaging the front and bottom body continues to haunt us throughout the light ‘off-road’ with this car.
