The message that circulates on social networks is related to WhatsApp, which warns that the information of users would be put at risk, this through an alleged help that the government grants to families.
How does it work?
Users receive a message inviting them to register on an external site in order to access the “Family Card Program”. When you click on some of the data that is requested, they are full name and telephone number, which is only about data theft, so if you receive this message you should avoid entering the link.
The program was supposedly created due to the COVID-19 health crisis and is intended for single mothers, single parents, young students, grandparents, children, foreign mothers, married people, and more.
The site that you are supposed to enter to provide your data is programatarjetafamilia.online, according to the message, to obtain a “free bonus”. If WhatsApp users enter the link sent, they will come across a message asking to share the information with your contacts, in order to access a “support group.”
By sharing this message with your contacts, they could also be victims of this fraud, which seeks to steal your information. Sometimes they do this to extort money from you since they have access to personal data, so you should be careful.
Dissatisfaction with WhatsApp usage policies
Recently the case of the new update in the terms and conditions of this messaging application became very popular. Among the new provisions were that by accepting them, you would allow the company to have access to your personal data, although at first they had ensured that this would not happen.
“Even if you don’t use our location-related options, we use your IP address and other information, such as area codes for phone numbers, to estimate your general location (for example, city and country). We also use information from your location for diagnostic and problem-solving purposes “, stated the privacy notice that appeared on the screen when you wanted to enter the application and if you did not accept them, you could not continue using WhatsApp.
The application would also have access to this data:
- At the WhatsApp service and how they treat your data.
- How businesses can use Facebook’s hosted services to store and manage their WhatsApp chats.
- How WhatsApp partners with Facebook to offer integrations into Facebook business products.
But due to the widespread discontent, the messaging application spread in the ‘States’ part, that in WhatsApp they cannot see the private messages of their users, they insisted that Facebook cannot do it either.
Initially, the date for the new application policies to take effect would be February 8, but because many users began to switch to other platforms such as Telegram, the company decided to postpone the implementation of its new rules until the next 15 th of May.
