A “city” will be built in Zurich’s District 6 starting next year. An apartment building with accessible apartments must make room for this.

A 5-room apartment is currently being advertised on Flatfox for 2,990 francs per month which is very cheap, including additional costs, but limited to the end of April 2025. Then the apartment building will go on Demolish Langensteinenstrasse, as it happens. “20 minutes” reported.

Accordingly, the building application is currently going through the approval process. According to a spokesperson for the Building Authority of the City of Zurich, the decision is expected this year. He will not reveal any further details.

At the same time, the responsible architecture firm advertises the building on its website as a “townhouse” at Irchelpark.

One of the owners of the building is Gross Generalunternehmung AG. According to their CEO, the current building is needed so it was sold by the previous owners. Five apartments will be built in total, three of them with 5.5 rooms and one apartment each with 3.5 and 4.5 rooms.

“Soon there will be only snobs in Zurich”

A resident, however, told the newspaper: “The house was sold a few years ago, but nobody here knows why a new house has to be built now. Since the house is still in good shape, she thinks there is no need for a new building.

One interested party on Flatfox, on the other hand, is upset about the project: “To tear everything down so you can rent an apartment for 10,000 francs a month. Logically, soon there will only be snobs in Zurich – no one else can live here anymore.”

Real estate developer Setz, however, argues that densification offers a similar housing supply as before and covers an existing need for larger apartments in the city.
