Malappuram: It is alleged that Afifa, who was about to leave with her lesbian partner, was forcibly shifted by her family to another place. An NGO called Vanaja Collective had lodged a complaint with the Malappuram Women’s Protection Officer that Afifak was facing physical and mental problems from her own home. The woman protection officer said that when the staff arrived at the Malappuram Kondoti home to investigate, the family took Afifa to the hospital in a vehicle.
The police have started an investigation into the incident. Last week, the High Court disposed of a habeas corpus petition filed by partner Sumaiya alleging that Afifa was withheld by her parents. According to Afifa, the court verdict was to go with the family.
Both had decided to live together and the Magistrate Court had given permission for it. However, Sumayya comes to the scene complaining that her lesbian partner Afifa is being detained by her family. A habeas corpus petition was also filed in the High Court. Sumaiya Sherin and Afifa, who live in Malappuram Kondotti police station, have been friends for two years. On January 27, after the two left home and started living together, Afifa’s father lodged a complaint at the Kondoti police station that his daughter was missing. However, two days later, both of them voluntarily appeared before the Malappuram Magistrate Court. Both of them took permission to live together as they were of age. Sumaiya alleges that Hafeefa was forcibly taken away by her family on the 30th of May when they were working in a private firm in Ernakulam.
