The Bergen area has recently been plagued by several thefts from mailboxes. Now it turns out that thieves also attack stalls and garages.
On Christmas Eve, a family at Rong in Øygarden discovered that all their Christmas presents had been stolen from their private garage.
– It was a desperate family who called in. They had stored the Christmas presents in a garage or outbuilding, but when they were to be picked up today, they were gone, says operations manager Eivind Hellesund.
The police are working on whether there are traces to secure, and are hoping for clarification.
– There are no signs that anyone has broken in, so we are working to talk to the offended and any witnesses. We hope to get to the bottom of what has happened, but we can not promise anything, says the operations manager.
It was a sad start to Christmas for the offended family.
– It’s very sad. The family says that was the sad news of the day. There were gifts for the whole family, so a good deal has been stolen, says Hellesund.
The matter is being reported, the police write.
Stolen Christmas dinner
Not far away, at Sverre Skår and the family in Øygarden, the Christmas dinner was about to go awry.
On Christmas Eve, they discovered that unauthorized persons had been inside the outdoor shed they have integrated in their house.
– It is a storage / drying house, and we were just going out to get something when we saw that the door was open and that the chops were gone, Skår tells TV 2.
In total, three packets of chops for around 800 kroner were gone. Thus, Skår had to go out and shop in one go.
– It was full speed ahead and buy a new one, so we could put it in water in time. Fortunately, we got hold of almost the same meat, he says.
He thinks it’s awkward that strangers have entered the shed which is part of the house and has a door to the house’s laundry room.
– It’s a little disgusting.
Skår is considering whether to report the case.
Must have stolen women’s shoes from mailbox
The police were also notified that a guy was sneaking around the area of Årstadveien in Bergen and that he was messing around in several mailboxes.
Shortly afterwards, the dog patrol gained control of a man (31) who was in possession of several things. Among other things, he had a pair of women’s shoes in size 38 from the brand Nude of Scandinavia, which the police suspect does not belong to him.
– Do you think that someone has sent you such for Christmas and you live in the area, then call us, writes West Police District on Twitter
Police are now warning people to be vigilant, both against thefts from mailboxes, stalls and garages.
Throughout Greater Bergen, we have been plagued with thefts from mailboxes and people who have been seen lurking around. Most recently today with the package of shoes that were stolen, says operations manager Hellesund.
In fact, he now encourages people to consider padlocks on their mailboxes.
– Then they become more difficult to open and there is more noise when someone tries to break them up. In addition, people should be quick to pick up packages they have received at the door.
