With no news of additional discoveries, the family despaired and decided to return home.
(Mokpo = Yonhap News) Reporter Cheon Jeong-in = The family members of the missing could not hide their sadness when the captain and sailors who disappeared due to the overturning accident of Cheongbo were not found even during an in-depth search.
According to the authorities, including the Coast Guard, on the 9th, after setting up the overturned blue protection, they searched various parts of the ship, including the engine room and cargo compartment, but the four missing persons were never found.
The families of the missing Koreans, who stayed at a lodging near the Coast Guard building and received information about the search, were reportedly in great despair at the news that the missing person had not been found.
Families have expressed their longing for the missing person to remain on board several times.
They did not let go of hope until the bottom was exposed by scooping out the water that was full of the ship.
However, even after the drainage work was completed, there was no result in the search, so it was greatly discouraged.
The authorities are planning to move the Cheongbo to the Mokpo shipyard and search the interior again, but it is unlikely that there will be any missing people as they have already thoroughly checked all the spaces inside the ship several times.
Families can now pin their hopes on an extensive maritime search.
Unable to estimate how much longer it would take, they decided to return to their respective residences to receive information about the search.
They are said to have asked the Coast Guard to “do their best in search and rescue.”
The Coast Guard is expanding the scope of the search, keeping in mind the possibility that the missing people may have drifted to the vicinity of Hongdo, Shinan-gun.
Apart from the missing person, the five bereaved families, including the chief engineer and sailor, who were found dead on board, are undergoing funeral procedures individually.
Funerals were moved to the residences of the bereaved families in Tongyeong, Busan, South Gyeongsang Province, and Suncheon, South Jeolla Province. In particular, some sailors who did not have local ties or immediate family members were simply held at a funeral home in Mokpo.
Mr. A, who lost his parents when he was young and had an accident while living as a sailor while living alone, also had a funeral by a relative who had been out of contact for nearly 10 years.
