Famalicão coach, João Pedro Sousa, harshly criticized the League after this afternoon’s draw at Farense, in which Chiquinho, the Famalicenses’ winger, complained of having been the target of racist insults.
An episode that follows the postponement of Famalicão’s reception to Sporting, last week, due to a lack of policing: before the match, there were serious episodes of violence in the vicinity of the stadium and the Minho emblem’s Fan Liaison Officer, Pedro Silva, was injured.
«I haven’t spoken to Chiquinho yet, but he’s a little changed. But let me just say one thing: it seems unbelievable to me that this happens in Portuguese stadiums. We, Famalicão, saw two consecutive weeks in which I saw and heard things that on the one hand I find unbelievable, and on the other I don’t”, he began by saying, in the SportTV flash interview.
«And why not in others? This is a bit of a mirror of our football. It’s no wonder that the League, and with the exception of the big ones, has ridiculous attendances, because things like this happen in our stadiums. In the last game, I was preparing the game against Sporting in my office and they told me to turn on the television: I saw unbelievable things. A colleague of mine, a friend of mine, Pedro Silva, who works with me at Famalicão, was left lying on the ground and went to the hospital, by people who were prepared to enter the stadium and then insult the referees, the players, the coaches and go to the looking for identical situations”, he continued, before asking the League, a body chaired by Pedro Proença, to take responsibility.
«This happened last week, similar things are happening again this week. As I say: I’m not surprised, looking at the stands, at the ridiculous assists. This has to change. Whoever manages a professional league has to take action with another force. If we want to evolve, we have to improve», he concluded.
Farense-Famalicão, from the 21st round of the League, ended in a draw (1-1).
