Famagusta: Reactions continue in Turkey – 2024-09-08 12:32:32

The Supreme Radio and Television Council of Turkey is trying, through meetings with Netflix, so that the Famagusta series is not shown to the customers of the platform outside of Greece.

We remind you that the series caused a frenzy with the Turks attacking Netflix and the Turkish Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Batuhan Mumcu to declare “deeply disturbed”.

“I am deeply disturbed by a series planned for release on the digital streaming platform Netflix, which distorts the 1974 peace operation in Cyprus. The peacekeeping operation in Cyprus was an intervention carried out in accordance with international law to establish peace and tranquility on the island. Such historical events must be treated objectively and impartially, and such broadcasts with a one-sided perspective harm friendship and peace between societies,” he had said.

“Unacceptable mistake”

In a post on X, the president of the Turkish Broadcasting Council, Embubekir Sahin said: “As the organization that regulates and supervises digital broadcasting services in our country, our Supreme Council has made the necessary negotiations with Netflix,” he said.

“While the historical facts are obvious, it is an unacceptable mistake of some circles to release a film that defames the Turks, our country and our heroic army,” he added.

“The production in question will be included in the Netflix catalog only in the country where it was previously broadcast (Greece) and will not be included in the catalog of Turkey or any other country,” he concluded.
