Such erroneous ballots sent to voters in Brooklyn may result in their invalidation if voters sign with their own names on envelopes bearing another name.
The New York City Electoral Council blamed Phoenix Graphics, which was hired to print and mail these ballots to voters.
The erroneously designed ballot papers are limited to one print batch sent to voters in Brooklyn, Michael Ryan, director of the Electoral Council, said at Tuesday’s meeting. He did not say how many bulletins were printed, but told the Gothamist news site that there were errors in 99,477 bulletins.
All voters who have received the erroneous ballots will receive new ones before the November 3 elections, and the costs will be covered by the contracted company, Raean said.
It is not yet known how the Electoral Council will deal with voters who have already sent their ballot in an incorrectly printed envelope.
Ryan promised that election officials would try to contact voters on social media and, if possible, by phone or email.
