Fallout Source Code for First Games Found, But Remasters or Ports Not Confirmed by Bethesda

For years we all thought that the Fallout source code for the first game and Fallout 2 was lost, but now Fallout co-creator Tim Kaine has confirmed in the comments under one of his YouTube videos that it was found at some point. although this does not mean that Bethesda is preparing remasters or ports.

Interplay lost the source code archive in the early 2000s, but they were able to recover the code from an old computer found in a warehouse. It should now be with Bethesda.

Since the developer of the original series, Interplay, sold the entire Fallout IP architecture to Bethesda in 2007, and before that sold the rights to make several standalone Fallout games to Bethesda, the Elder Scrolls and Starfield creator owns the entire series, with Kane adding, “You need to ask about it.” Bethesda” when asked about the possibility of ports or remasters of Fallout 1 and 2.

Kane’s comments don’t confirm that the original Fallout games will be coming to new platforms or that remasters are actually being made by Bethesda, but he seems to have put an end to the long-running story that Interplay was never able to find the source code after it was lost.

The source code isn’t exactly true about ports and remasters of the original Fallout games, but it will make Bethesda’s job a lot easier if the studio ever decides to revive old games. Classic isometric RPGs can be found on Steam and PC Game Pass, but they are not available on consoles, and there are no official remastered versions of Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics.
