Both Mykonos and Santorini are in decline, as accommodation and catering businesses on these two islands are experiencing a drop in turnover.
However, overall, the accommodation and catering sectors continued to move upwards in the 2nd quarter of the year, according to ELSTAT data.
In the totality of businesses in the Accommodation sector, the turnover in the second quarter of 2024 amounted to 2,819,022,548 euros, marking an increase of 10.7% compared to the second quarter of 2023, which was 2,546,523,445 euros.
In the totality of the companies in the Catering Services sector, the turnover in the second quarter of 2024 was 2,557,431,370 euros, marking an increase of 5.8% compared to the second quarter of 2023, when it was formed at 2,417,633,471 euros.
Mykonos and Santorini
For enterprises in the Accommodation sector of the Regional Units with a contribution to the total turnover of the year 2023 greater than 1%, the largest increase in turnover in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the second quarter of 2023 was observed in the Regional Unit of Halkidiki (20.4% ) and the smallest increase (2.9%) was recorded in the Regional Unit of Thessaloniki, while the largest decrease was recorded in the Regional Unit of Mykonos (12.1%), as well as in Santorini (7.2%).
For businesses in the Catering Services industry, the largest increase in turnover in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the second quarter of 2023 was observed in the Halkidiki Regional Unit (25.2%) and the smallest increase (0.5%) was recorded in the Regional Unit Ioannina, while the largest decrease was recorded in the Regional Unit of Mykonos (7.4%) followed by Santorini (6.3%)

For businesses in the Accommodation sector with an obligation to keep bigraphic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in June 2024 amounted to 1,340,480,397 euros, marking an increase of 11.1% compared to June 2023, where had risen to 1,206,973,143 euros.
For businesses in the Catering Services sector with an obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in June 2024 amounted to 313,052,796 euros, marking an increase of 13.7% compared to June 2023, where it had risen to 275,328,134 euros.
